This recipe for Salt & Pepper Squid (椒鹽魷魚) features crispy fried squid seasoned with a blend of spices, making it an addictive snack. With simple ingredients like squid, salt, and pepper, combined with a light batter, this dish is sure to be a hit!
Prepare the ingredients. Slice up jalapeños. Clean & cut open the squids. Score the inside of the squid, like a grid #, so when you deep-fry it, it curls up.
Season the squid with salt & white pepper. Mix in an egg and 1/2 a tablespoon of corn starch. Coat it in corn starch and set aside.
Heat up a pot of oil to 350 F. Carefully place squid into the pot. Use chopstick to ensure that they don’t stick together. Remove when the squid turns golden yellow.
Reheat the oil to 400 F. Double fry the squid to make them extra crispy. Remove in 1 minute and set aside.
Fry minced garlic and jalapeños. Add in fried squid. Add salt and five spice powder. Stir fry and toss until well combined.
 Serve & enjoy.
